WF-AID is excited to share our Annual Review for 2019/20, which contains information about your community organisation, where we’ve worked, who we’ve served, and how your donations have transformed lives.
A MESSAGE FROM THE SECRETARY GENERAL
The motto of The World Federation is: “We Exist to Serve”. This WF-AID 2019-2020 Annual Review is a testament and exemplar of this motto.
I am extremely honoured that our organisation can show a report that is infused with real stories of how we have delivered, increased our coverage, and have been able to deliver Aid projects that have touched and transformed peoples’ lives in times of their utmost need.
A special thanks goes to Sister Madiha Raza, the Head of WF-AID. Under her leadership of a most dynamic and able team, through the last year, significant improvements and projects have been delivered.
A MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF WF-AID
It gives me great pleasure to be able to present you with our WF-AID Annual Review for 2019-2020. It’s a special feeling to be able to look back and see the impact we’ve made to the lives of hundreds of thousands of people, and it’s all down to you – our generous community.
I became the full time Head of WF-AID in November 2019, eager to build your trust in this organisation. It weighs heavily on our shoulders that we are the custodians of your gifts, donations, and trust and ultimately we are responsible firstly to Allah (swt), then the beneficiaries we serve on the ground, and to yourselves as donors and supporters.
In this Annual Review, you’ll be able to read more about our new and improved internal processes and guidelines, which ensure we are working with reliable and trustworthy partners, so you can be assured that your donations are being used in the way you intended.
ABOUT WF-AID
WF-AID is the humanitarian arm of The World Federation of KSIMC, which has been a registered charity in the UK since 1976.
The WF-AID brand was created in 2016, with the aim to focus solely on humanitarian aid and economic development. We aim to provide practical and sustainable solutions for the different challenges faced by men, women, and children around the world.
As a registered charity in the UK, we are required by UK law to follow a number of steps to ensure we are working with reliable and reputable partners and that they are using charitable funds in the correct way. The World Federation, and WF-AID, are compliant with the UK Charity Commission. In addition, as custodians of your donations, the organisation takes this responsibility very seriously. We have put processes in place, which we follow for every appeal, project, and remittance. You can read this in detail in the report.
WHERE WE WORK
WF-AID actively works in 30 countries, supporting communities in the most heavily-deprived parts of Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Read our full report to see exactly what projects we run in each country.
YOUR DONATIONS IN ACTION
EMERGENCY RELIEF
WF-AID, through our regional federations and partners around the world, respond to natural disasters and emergency situations as they arise. Read about all of these projects in our report.
In 2020, as the coronavirus pandemic hit, WF-AID worked locally to support families in the UK who had been affected and to increase the capacity of organisations that were struggling to meet demand amidst the crisis.
Following Cyclone idai in Mozambique, your donations helped provide food packs to over 1,500 people who had been affected. We also distributed food packs to 750 families affected by the earthquake in Kashmir.
For the past six years, the people of Yemen have been suffering. They are facing the world’s worst humanitarian crisis ever. The coronavirus pandemic is adding to their suffering, putting millions at risk.
Through our partners on the ground, we have been able to reach the young and old in several areas in Yemen to provide continuous support to families and those suffering due to the conflict in the country.
SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS
WF-AID are committed to empowering communities and giving them a helping hand to work themselves out of poverty. We want to focus on more sustainable solutions, which will change the lives of people living in poverty in the long term. You can read about how we’re working towards this in our report.
We are passionate about empowering individuals by giving them the support and resources they need to improve their standard of living and working towards economic self-sufficiency.
Since January 2019, we have run more projects with sustainable and longer lasting impact. One of our key objectives is the eradication of poverty within the Khoja community and are actively working towards this.
Since January 2019, we have built over 200 water wells and sustainable water solutions in Kenya, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Yemen. These wells have changed the lives of the families they’ve been installed for.
As well as the water solution itself, we also provide training to locals so they can maintain the installation in the future. This empowers the local community, making them self sufficient.
GLOBAL RELIEF
Each year, we run a number of annual appeals and projects, which provide regular and ongoing support to thousands of families living in poverty around the world. You can see the impact you’ve made in more detail in our report.
Our Ramadan Relief appeal works to help some of the families most in need around the world during the Holy month of Ramadan. We distribute food aid in 26 countries around the world, including Tanzania, Malawi, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
One of the ways you help families living in poverty throughout the year is by giving people access to healthcare who are otherwise unable to afford it. This includes surgeries, medication, scans and tests, and the equipping of local hospitals and clinics.
Your donations to our Winter Appeal provide warm clothing, blankets, and heaters to families living in countries hardest hit in the winter. In 2019, you helped over 4,000 people in Bangladesh, Bosnia, Gaza, Iraq, Lebanon, Pakistan, UK, and Yemen.
Through your donations, you are helping support students, giving them a good start to a brighter future. Your donation help give breakfasts to students in Kenya, equip schools with stationery, and sponsor the education of thousands of young people.
PARTNERSHIPS
In the past 18 months, we have entered into partnerships with various businesses and organisations as part of their corporate social responsibility activities. You can read more information about these partnerships in our report.
NEXT STEPS
Over the next twelve months, WF-AID are aiming to further increase our reach, portfolio of projects, and our impact across developing communities.
We are aiming to increase our development work such as sustainable projects, microfinancing, and vocational training, so we are making a lasting impact on people’s lives and helping them take steps towards a life free of poverty.
Another key focus for the next year is to continue working very closely with and build capacity within our regional federations. This will allow us to fulfil the needs of our community around the world, and respond to emergency situations quickly and efficiently through our regional federations.
We have already started doing this through holding training workshops and will continue with this over the next year.
