The earthquake that struck Turkey this year has left a devastating impact on the nation, causing widespread destruction, loss of life, and immense suffering. The seismic event, which occurred in February this year, has been one of the most catastrophic natural disasters in recent history, leaving behind a trail of devastation in its wake. With its epicenter located in Gaziantep, the earthquake’s destructive power radiated across a wide area, affecting numerous cities and towns in its path, as well as Syria, reaching areas such as Aleppo (Halab) and Idlib in the North.
The scale of this disaster shocked the nation and gained international attention, highlighting the urgent need for immediate relief efforts and long-term recovery plans. The majority of aid agencies on the ground report that the death toll in Turkey alone reached approximately 55,000 recorded deaths

struck Turkey on 6th February this year.
BACKGROUND
The first earthquake, measuring 7.8 magnitude, struck southern and western Turkey and western Syria in the early hours of the 6th February. The epicentre was near the Turkish city of Gaziantep.
The second earthquake, just hours later in the early afternoon, was measured 7.5 in magnitude and was further north in the Elbistan district, central Turkey.
There was then a second earthquake two weeks later which hit 6.4 magnitude on 20 February near the city of Antakya, close to the Syrian border.
IMPACT
WF-AID RESPONSE
Immediately after the earthquake struck, WF-AID initiated an urgent fundraising campaign to assist those affected in Turkey and Syria by distributing food packages, water, clothing, blankets, and medication to thousands of individuals. Additionally, financial assistance has been extended to community members, and an ambulance has been rented to transport injured individuals to hospitals.
Imam Hasan Foundation’s donation made a significant difference to the lives of the victims in Turkey. Your funds were used to distribute food, hygiene items and water in Hatay, the Southernmost province of Turkey, an area where many families were identified as in desperate need.

Each family was provided with a package containing the following food and hygiene products as well as a 5 litre bottle of water per person:
