Through your donations, WF-AID provided access to basic sanitation to 60 vulnerable families affected by Cyclone Idai in Mozambique.
In March 2019, Cyclone Idai hit Mozambique affecting thousands of people. Homes, properties and crops were completely destroyed, leaving people without homes and no way to get back to their normal way of living.
WF-AID responded by first providing food and emergency aid to some of the thousands of families affected. Our partners distributed relief hampers to thousands of affected families in the hardest hit districts of Beira, Buzi, Dondo and Nhamatanda. We also started assisting the displaced families through the construction of latrines as well as accompanying hygiene and sanitation promotions. Considering the increased vulnerability of the people affected and the increasing risk of illnesses, it was critical to focus in improving the sanitation in these places.
We supported the construction of 50 latrines to the most vulnerable families in Ngupa, Ceramica in the most rural communal Bairros of Beira. The beneficiary families consisted of the elderly, families with sick members, orphans, widows, and single mothers.
The families we helped now have access safe and durable toilets that can withstand strong rains, and help prevent diseases related to sanitation.
Your donations have made an incredible impact on these families both immediately and in the long term. We regularly respond to emergency situations around the world to help people in need.
