For The World Federation, providing suitable and affordable housing for our community members is one of our biggest priorities. We have been running housing schemes in countries in Africa, and also in India, for many years. Housing is the biggest cost for our Khoja communities in Dar Es Salaam and there is a terrible shortage of good quality and affordable housing. Income levels of most households in Tanzania are incredibly low, with 90% of the population only able to afford less than £35 on housing per month and financing solutions is simply not affordable to either.
How can we come together to help fight housing poverty in Tanzania?
We believe every family deserves a place they can call home, with the home being safe, secure and warm. With incredible support from Ahmed Daya, World Federation Councillor, we have partnered up with Africa Federation to create an amazing opportunity for our community members. The World Federation have pioneered a fantastic Scheme called “Rent-to-Own” which will enable low to middle income families to live in affordable and decent houses. Beneficiaries will only be expected to pay a deposit of 20% of the cost of the apartment and rent is paid monthly as rental over the period of 12 year. Once fully paid, the tenant becomes the owner of the apartment.
The Al Asghery Residency Housing Project in Dar es Salaam will see 18 apartments and two shops on the ground floor being built for our community members.
