Thanks to the fundraising efforts of Stanmore Jaffery’s to our Ali Asghar Water Appeal last year, we were able to install a water desalination plant in Gaza, which provides clean water to an average of 20,000 people each month.
The project consists of a water desalination plant and a large water well, which generates power through the installation of a solar energy system. Water that is extracted is then desalinated and distributed to beneficiaries across Palestine in a water distribution truck.
Before the installation began, our partners in Gaza identified the ideal location for the plant and renovated it to enhance the sustainability of the desalination plant. The well was drilled 75 metres into the ground, in order to extend the longevity of the project. As part of the implementation, lab tests were conducted to ensure the water was of good quality and met the required specifications.
The project was completed and opened in January 2021, where the first water distribution took place.
