I begin by offering my condolences to our living Holy Imam, Imam e Zamana (aj) on the martyrdom of Abul Fadhlil Abbas (a), the lion of Ali (a), the shield of Husayn (a), the guard of Zainab (a), Saqqa e Sakina.
When you hear the name Abbas, what immediately comes to your mind? Loyalty, sacrifice, strength and bravery. But we also remember the cries of ‘Al Atash! Al Atash! Al Atash!’ from the small children of Karbala. Hazrat Abbas (a) gave his LIFE to quench the agonising thirst of these children. We are the followers and lovers of such an inspiration, and there are children currently dying every 2 minutes due to poverty and lack of access to clean and safe water. What can we do to end this? What can we do to help them? Can we do more to spread the message of Hazrat Abbas (a)?
Recently, I wrote to you detailing the condition of the 884 million people around the world without access to safe drinking water. Scarcity of safe, clean water diminishes people’s health prospects, restricts their economic potential, and forces millions of women and girls to walk for miles in search of this basic human right.
Through WF AID’s flagship, Ali Asghar Water Appeal, we are building wells in water-scarce communities across several countries. We are supporting sustainable water projects in Yemen and Kenya that will serve over 70,000 people between them. We have commenced a project in Handeni, Tanzania which will provide a community of over 22,000 with safe and accessible water. We appreciate your continuous generous support, without which none of this would be possible.
