In August 2022, Pakistan was struck by unprecedented floods triggered by heavy monsoon rains. These floods had a devastating impact on communities, leading to the destruction of numerous villages and leaving almost 10 million children requiring urgent, life-saving assistance. The consequences were catastrophic, resulting in the loss of hundreds of thousands of homes, public health facilities damaged, and water systems and schools rendered nonfunctional.
Families were forced to live out in the open, lacking access to drinking water, food, and livelihood opportunities, while being exposed to numerous flood-related risks and hazards.
The floods affected millions of people across all four provinces of Pakistan, causing dire distress among the impoverished population. Over 33 million individuals were affected, and the devastation resulted in the destruction of 897,014 houses, with an additional 1,391,467 homes damaged. Tragically, the floods claimed the lives of at least 1,739 people, including 647 children and 114 women. The aftermath was marked by injuries, the spread of waterborne diseases, and the contamination of water sources. Displaced families struggled to find shelter, rebuild their livelihoods, and gain access to basic necessities facing immense challenges in their journey towards recovery.
First Phase – Immediate Relief Efforts
In the first phase of our response, we focused on providing essential aid to meet the immediate needs of the flood-affected population. We distributed essential items such as food, water, tents, mosquito nets, medicines etc. Our ground partners ensured that these supplies reached those who needed them the most. These supplies played a crucial role in ensuring the survival and well-being of the affected individuals and families during this challenging time. Additionally, medical teams were deployed to address health concerns and provide medical assistance to those in need.
Second Phase – Build a Home
Once the immediate relief needs were addressed, we shifted our focus to long-term recovery and rehabilitation. Thanks to your generous support, we were able to initiate the second phase: Building homes for the flood-affected people. Through the use of your donation, we successfully constructed 190 homes, each equipped with a room of size 14’x16′, a washroom of size 4’x6′, solar panels (185 watts), a fan, and 2 light bulbs. These homes were designed to withstand future floods and provide a secure shelter for the vulnerable population. By providing a permanent place to live, we aimed to empower the affected communities to rebuild their lives and regain their independence.
IMPACT OF YOUR DONATIONS
The donations were utilized efficiently and effectively to construct safe and secure homes for those who lost their homes in the disaster. We are thrilled to inform you that your support helped us build 190 homes, providing a new beginning for families who were previously living in dire and unsafe conditions. These homes were built using sturdy materials, designed to withstand future natural disasters and ensure the safety and well-being of the residents. By providing a place to live, you have helped these families regain stability, hope, and a fresh start.
We understand that words cannot fully convey the impact of your kind donation. We have attached a few photographs of the homes that have been built, giving you a glimpse of the direct impact, your contribution has had on the lives of those affected by the floods. These images showcase the happiness and relief brought to families who have been through unimaginable hardships.

BENEFICIARY STORY- MUHAMMAD
Muhammad Hussain resident of Village Riaz Gul Sargani, District Dera Ghazi Khan, Punjab:
I am the head of a family with four children. We were living a pleasant and peaceful life, with me working as a laborer and everything going well. Suddenly, I became ill with a liver condition and needed a transplant. To afford the surgery, I had to sell everything except our small home. After the successful transplant, I was advised to avoid strenuous work. To support my family, I started a small shop near our home. Unfortunately, a destructive flood destroyed our home made of mud, and we had to move to a tent. We were worried about our children’s future but I maintained faith that Allah would send help in our time of need. During this challenging period, representatives of WF-AID visited us and constructed a sturdy, cemented room measuring 14’x16′ and bathroom measuring 4’6′, equipped with a solar panel, fan, and light, bringing us indescribable happiness. We are forever grateful and pray for the organization and the donors who have brought us renewed hope and the opportunity to rebuild our lives.
