The floods in Pakistan caused tremendous suffering. Unprecedented rainfall and uninterrupted flooding triggered by climate change wreaked havoc across most of Pakistan during the monsoon season, inundating more than one-third of the country. All four provinces were affected, and tens of millions lost their homes. WF-AID will be working with the Mohsin & Fauzia Jaffer Foundation towards the upliftment of communities under the Pakistan Flood Emergency Appeal.
The floods caused total or partial damage to 2.1 million homes across Pakistan, a staggering statistic. Families have been returning to their places of where their homes once stood to assess the damage caused.
Mohsin & Fauzia Jaffer Foundation generously pledged USD $500,000 towards the rebuilding of 400 homes in Balochistan, Punjab and Sindh.
Mohsin & Fauzia Jaffer Foundation has further generously commited USD $500,000 for a range of Economic Upliftment projects towards families who lost all means of a livelihood during the unprecedented floods. This will enhance and stabilise the beneficiaries income to support their families. The team is in consultation with local ground partners and advice is also being sought from economic experts.
A few initial options explored are:
- Support the farmers in reviving agriculture through availability of good quality seeds and fertilizers, equipment, adequate quantity and quality of water etc.
- Support small scale cattle farming
- Support in establishing and reviving of small shops in villages & towns
- Provide tools such as loader rickshaws and other vehicles and equipment to rebuild their livelihoods
