Ramadan Relief: What’s included in our food packs?
This Shahr Ramadan, you can help vulnerable widows, orphans and families by supporting WF-AID’s Ramadan Relief Appeal, which provides food packs for the deserving.
Each individual Food Pack costs just £40/$55 USD and can feed a family of five for an entire month.
WF-AID is committed to helping deserving widows, orphans and families by distributing food packs in countries within Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, including countries like Pakistan, Kenya, Lebanon, and the United Kingdom.
As a result of living in some of the most deprived communities across these regions, many people are forced to live off what they can find on a day-to-day basis – consequently, causing many to suffer from malnutrition.
The food packs you provide give families a rare opportunity to receive essential nutritional aid, which they rely on for the strength they need to carry on building a normal life. In extreme cases, a fulfilling meal can be the difference between life and death.
For children, the nutrition they will obtain from the food packs will help them to pay attention in school, which is pivotal in helping them to make the most of their education and break free from the poverty cycle that has shackled many families for generations.
What’s included?
As part of WF-AID’s pledge to support local businesses, economies, and trade, all ingredients are sourced locally within respective countries.
The contents of each food pack may, therefore, vary by region, in accordance with traditional, local cuisine. The typical contents of a WF-AID food pack are:
Asia: Oil, sugar, rice, lentils, flour, pulses, dates, tea, chickpeas, salt, gram flour, wheat, soap
Africa: Maize flour, oil, rice, beans, salt, sugar, tea, cassava flour, dates, water purification chemicals
Middle East: Rice, lentils, chickpeas, tomato paste, spaghetti, eggs, vermicelli, olive oil, cooking oil, sugar, tea, dried milk
Rice and lentils form the basis of all our packs as these provide a good source of various vitamins along with energy, sugar, and fiber.
Dates also contain a variety of essential minerals including calcium, iron, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, and zinc; all of which help us to build strength and boost our immune systems in different ways. The Food Packs provided by WF-AID are imperative for survival in poorer communities riddled with disease and infection.
Tea helps us stay hydrated and includes important antioxidants, which can help the body stay healthy.
Other items commonly found in our Food Packs include foods rich in protein and packed with carbohydrates, rounding up all the key nutrients needed.
