In India, your donations to our Brighter Futures appeal are funding scholarships for 201 children at a college in Lucknow. The children are all aged between 5 and 18 and come from underprivileged backgrounds.
These scholarships are a lifeline for these students and their families, who otherwise would not be able to afford a decent education and potentially be stuck in the same poverty cycle. The scholarships are also based on academic performance, with each student needing to score above 60% each year. This has been acting as a motivator for the students so they can continue to receive the scholarship.
One of the children benefitting from this is Mazahir* in Class III. His father suffered a brain hemorrhage three years ago leaving him paralyzed and bed-ridden. Mazahir’s mum cares for her husband and two children full time and is unable to work as well so they are reliant on support from immediate family members, who are also not particularly well off. Your donations have been supporting Mazahir with his education for three years, giving his family some hope for his future.
