Through our Brighter Futures appeal, we have been supporting the Madrasa-e-Ahlulbaith (as) Girls Home in India, which provides essential services to girls in need.
The orphanage is currently home to 54 girls, all of whom are either orphans or have parents who cannot look after them. It has been in operation since 2007 when it opened with 5 girls. Since then, this centre has been providing a lifeline for the girls living there.
The orphanage arranges a host of activities for the girls including:
- Islamic education
- Secular education taught by teachers from the local school
- Vocational skills to help their future careers
- Daily jamaat namaaz and duas
- Majalis recitation and training so the girls can also recite once they leave
- Wafaat and Wiladat programs
- Birthday celebrations for all of the children
- Visits to the local park
One of the WF-AID team in India visited the orphanage earlier this year and spoke to some of the girls living there. One of the girls said she considers the head of the centre her mother and loves being there. For some of the girls, being with their families means they don’t get to eat or they are treated badly by their parents. This centre is where they feel safe and happy. Another girl said ‘I love this place because I get to study’, something that they don’t have the opportunity for otherwise.
