Winter: Read about your fantastic impact

Your donations are helping vulnerable families around the world.

Throughout the winter months, WF-AID in collaboration with our Regional Federations as well as our trusted partners on the ground, have been distributing life-saving winter essentials to families living in poverty around the world. You can see the impact your donations have had below.

However, winter isn’t over yet and our partners are still hard at work in Iraq, Pakistan, and India to deliver warm blankets, shawls, and food to families in need.

IRAQ

Your donations allowed us to distribute heaters to 1,145 people at an orphanage in Iraq, including:

– 1,018 orphans
– 113 teachers
– 14 local people

The families of these orphans are living on small incomes or support from charities and can’t afford essentials, such as heaters.

BANGLADESH

Our partners in Bangladesh have delivered warm blankets to 5,000 people living in the Panchagarh District, including widows and orphans, providing support to 700 families.

One woman, named Khatun, touchingly relayed how her son died after contracting coronavirus, leaving her, her daughter-in-law, and three children under the age of 9 with no income or support. They were starving for two days before our teams heard about them and went to help. Your donations are helping families like Khatun’s.

PAKISTAN

Our partners distributed warm blankets, shawls, and winter clothing to 250 people in Parachinar in Pakistan, where temperatures this year have dropped to below -7 degrees.

Many of these families live in poorly made settlements, with no defense against the cold, winter weather and your donations have provided them with these essential items, which will help protect them from the elements.

INDIA

In India, your donations have reached 600 people, including 400 orphans and 199 widows, providing them with:

– 200 jackets
– 216 jumpers
– 500 pairs of warm socks
– 200 blankets

Our Regional Federation, India Federation, are still distributing 1,000 blankets to families, including our Khoja community members living in Gujarat and Kashmir.

AFGHANISTAN

In Herat, Afghanistan, our partners supported 1,045 people, including 750 orphans and 250 widows.

Each family received two blankets and 100kg of coal so people can heat their homes and cook food. One of these families consists of 13 people, including 3 widows who are now the sole earners and parents of ten orphaned children. Your donations gave them much needed support this winter.

YEMEN

Our partners in Yemen, have donated 1,000 blankets to 700 families in need in Sana’a, to help keep them warm through the winter months.

Our teams are regularly assessing the needs on the ground in Yemen and are providing the most urgently needed support. This winter, we also provided food packs to 400 families, each containing nutritious food items tailored to the local diet.

LEBANON

Our partners in Lebanon have distributed heaters, warm clothes, and blankets to 181 people, many of whom were affected by the explosion in Beirut last year.

The winter essentials go a long way in protecting these vulnerable families from the cold and harsh weather and also preventing illnesses such as hypothermia.
