Zainabiya Child Sponsorship Scheme: Report 2019/20

At WF-AID, we believe that every child has the right to an education and we are actively helping children living in impoverished communities to receive an education through the Zainabiya Child Sponsorship Scheme (ZCSS). We aim to empower individuals by providing them with an education, which in turn gives them the tools they need to build a better life for themselves.

Through this report, you will be able to see the impact that your donations have made in the lives of young people living in poverty across India, Pakistan, Kenya, and Tanzania. Following the strategic plan we implemented in 2018, our focus continues to be to provide Higher Education, which gives people the qualifications they need to start their careers and improving their standard of living.

Unfortunately, there are many more children who need our help than we can support so we are forced to turn some students down. In some cases, particularly with primary education, students are able to receive funding from elsewhere, but for many and in particular, for Higher Education students, this isn’t possible.

We are committed to reaching as many students within our community as possible to ensure they have access to education and need your help to be able to reach more people within and out of our community.

Your support via ZCSS goes a long way in shaping the future of many lives. Launched in 1981 with just 44 donors, the scheme is now supported by over 800 sponsor parents.

Your donations have reached more than 25,000 students in India, Pakistan, Kenya and Tanzania. The monies collected are used to sponsor tuition fees, course materials, and other one-off educational support needed by the students.

One of our previous students is Aliabbas Muhammad*, who grew up in a low-income family, whose situation was made more difficult when his father passed away when he was 15. His mother received support from family, but  unfortunately, this wasn’t enough to cover their expenses.

Aliabbas’s mother was adamant her children completed their education and, through the help of our ZCSS donors, Aliabbas became a qualified chartered accountant.
