Imagine a world where water scarcity no longer haunts the lives of billions. UNICEF reports that nearly two-thirds of our planet’s population—over four billion people—face severe water scarcity for at least one agonizing month each year. Distressingly, by 2025, this crisis could engulf half of humanity. Our collective action is the lifeblood that can prevent the displacement of 700 million souls by 2030.
Every Drop Counts.
Today, we invite you to be a part of something truly remarkable—the Ali Asghar Water Appeal (AAWA) 2023 campaign. It’s time to make waves and create lasting change in the lives of those struggling without access to clean water. Together, we can turn scarcity into abundance, despair into hope, and thirst into fulfillment.
However, the significance of clean water extends far beyond quenching thirst. Adequate sanitation relies heavily on clean water for activities such as bathing, handwashing, and waste management. Clean water is indispensable in preventing the spread of waterborne diseases, reducing the transmission of harmful microorganisms, and maintaining proper hygiene practices. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) – Improving access to water, sanitation and hygiene can save 1.4 million lives per year.
For over a decade, the Ali Asghar Water Appeal has been a beacon of hope, striving to provide better access to water in water-scarce communities. This year, we are fueled by an even greater ambition—to build a future of sustainable water solutions. Our sights are set on transforming the lives of those in Gaza, Lebanon, Tanzania, Kenya, Mozambique, Pakistan, and India.
The WF-AID’s Ali Asghar Water Appeal is dedicated to bringing clean and safe water to communities worldwide through their impactful ‘Build a Well‘ Projects and ‘Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH)‘ initiatives. This commitment aims to address the pressing need for reliable access to clean water, improving the overall health and well-being of these communities. By implementing sustainable water projects and promoting proper sanitation and hygiene practices, the Ali Asghar Water Appeal endeavors to create lasting positive change and empower communities with a vital resource that is essential for life.

Unleashing the transformative power of water, we embark on a journey that transcends borders and uplifts communities. Brace yourself for a tale of resilience, hope, and unwavering determination. From the heart of Gaza to the arid lands of Lebanon, and across Tanzania, Mozambique, Kenya, India, and Pakistan, the Ali Asghar Water Appeal is igniting waves of change.
In the heart of Gaza, we embark on a flagship project that will send ripples of change through the region. Through our ground partners, we aim to deliver 200 water tanks to 200 families, as well as a water truck which will distribute water to over 200 families in Beit Lahia on a monthly basis. The truck will collect the water from WF-AID’s previously facilitated water desalination plant. This lifeline, combined with our existing sustainable efforts, will ensure the entire northern region of the Gaza Strip receives the elixir of life it so desperately deserves.

In the arid lands of South Lebanon, where hope can seem as distant as an oasis mirage, we aim to drill an artesian well. This sustainable water source will breathe new life into communities, quenching their thirst and nourishing their dreams.
In Tanzania, we stand united to confront the challenges of water scarcity head-on. By constructing five bore wells equipped with storage tanks, we plan to empower approximately 18,000 souls each day, bringing clean water to parched throats and extinguishing the flames of waterborne diseases.
Mozambique, a land teeming with resilience, calls for our attention. We pledge to repair damaged water wells in Nampula, revitalizing hope and ensuring that the life-giving streams flow once again for local families and communities.

WF-AID is undertaking multiple water projects in Pakistan to address water scarcity and improve sanitation.
These include a pipeline project in Baltistan, which will benefit around 4,000 individuals daily by sourcing water from mountains to a central collection point. In Jacobabad and Shikarpur, Sindh, pipelines and water pumps are aimed to be installed to provide accessible drinking water, reducing the burden on women and children who travel long distances. An extra deep well powered with solar submersible pump will be installed in KPK, supplying fresh water to more than 1,000 families. R.O Filtration projects in Punjab which will involve building water filtration plants to provide potable water and reduce waterborne diseases.
We also aim to facilitate washroom projects in impoverished areas, construct submersible hand pumps in Attock and Chakwal, and deep solar submersible pumps in D. I. Khan. These initiatives aim to alleviate water scarcity, improve hygiene, and benefit local communities.
