WF-AID, in coordination with various community groups, organisations, and individuals, is working on supporting vulnerable people during the COVID-19 outbreak.
In light of the Coronavirus outbreak, which is affecting people around the world, we are working with a number of organisations and creating a network of volunteers who can help the most vulnerable and at risk groups during this difficult time.
We are coordinating our efforts with groups such as Who is Hussain London, Hujjat Helping Hands, Sufra Food Bank, The Muslim Charities Forum, and the Council of European Jamaats and pooling our resources to ensure that there is no duplication of efforts, instead increasing our reach and ability to help people in the way they need.
Many people are already self-isolating or social distancing, and it is likely that many more people will be pushed to do the same in the coming weeks and months, making things difficult for people and families. Many of the elderly, who are most at risk, are being advised to stay at home and avoid contact with other people for up to four months. This can be incredibly tough, leaving people feeling lonely and anxious. Through activities such as grocery shopping, prescription deliveries, and mental health support, our volunteers will be available to provide the support most needed by these groups of people.
We will be mobilising volunteers around the London and Greater London area to start with, with a view to replicate this in cities and countries around the world. Each locality will have a dedicated group of volunteers, and a volunteer captain, who will support the vulnerable in their local communities.
Madiha Raza, the Head of WF-AID and the person leading this initiative has said how important the coordination of activities is. ‘It is important that we’re not duplicating work or efforts anyone is already doing. In times such as this, we are working together, as one collective group trying to reach as many people who need help as possible, be it through grocery shopping for an elderly neighbour, or calling someone who’s feeling alone and in need of some conversation and company’.
More information will be available soon, including details on how you can get involved. If you are already running similar initiatives in your local area, please get in touch and send us some details on what you’re doing.
If you would like to donate towards this initiative, please donate to our Emegency Fund.
